Drea Boit
1989-2023
On Sunday, April 30th, 2023, on the banks of the Willamette River, our beloved Drea transitioned from our world into the great beyond. She leaves behind her faithful pup Thefty and a heartbroken community of friends, lovers, and comrades from across the continent.
Drea was a dedicated forest defender, a brilliant artist and musician, a veritable encyclopedia of botanical knowledge spanning a wide range of ecosystems, a really good friend, and so much more. She effortlessly built community wherever she was, connecting the dots within a vast network of friends.
Drea gave everything she had to direct action campaigns for the environment and for collective liberation. She had a wild, mischevious sense of humor and a contagious smile that always inspired us to make trouble with her. Her presence added so much to the fight against the Line 3 tar sands pipeline and the successful defeat of the Jordan Cove LNG pipeline. Drea trained countless people in the skills and tactics of principled resistance, and fostered lasting friendships all along the way.
Drea struggled with her mental health for a long time. She lived with trauma, unbearable loss, and heartbreak. She lived fiercely and passionately despite the challenges presented by the conditions of her existence in a hostile world and the barriers of institutional healthcare. In the end, Drea’s choice to embark on this next adventure was hers to make, and ours to endure. She is finally free.
